FAQ’s on Botox and Dermal Fillers

Botox is the trade name of the refined Botulinum protein. It has been in use for over 15 years with a proven track record of safety. Its use in becoming increasingly common in medicine, from lines and wrinkles, to headaches, and even excessive sweating! We use it with confidence on staff and family members.

Whenever you decrease muscle function with Botox, it will affect the way that muscle moves. When you have Botox, your face will feel, and move, differently. Our goal with Botox is to decrease the wrinkles and lines associated with facial expression, while not completely eliminating these expression. Everyone has seen pictures of a “bad result” with Botox, usually as a result of over treatment of the affected areas. You should look refreshed and younger, not “frozen”. As it is a non invasive, conservative treatment, if you do not like the way it feels, it will wear off in a few months.

Dermal fillers are made of compounds that naturally occur in your body. Your body possesses the enzymes to break the filling material down. After they are placed, it is common to have some mild discomfort, swelling, and bruising. These conditions, if they occur, are temporary. One thing a patient can expect is a certain degree of a “bumpy” feel (but not a “bumpy” appearance) to the skin overlying the filler.

For either of these procedures, patients can expect the possibility of mild discomfort, swelling, bruising, or a headache, after treatment. For these reasons, it is best to not schedule a procedure immediately before a social event.
